Fireworks Deficit & Contributions to the Half Moon Lake District

By Mike McMahon

At our last annual meeting in August we had a discussion on how w e might fund our July 4 fireworks. We talked about different alternatives:

  1. Continue to fund fireworks as we do today which ends up requiring funds t o be borrowed from the District

  2. Not have a fireworks show

  3. Fund fireworks from District funds

The HML board appreciated the discussion and input from our members. The board discussed the alternatives and sought input from the DR on what activities fall under our public purpose. Advice from the DR stated that community building activities, such as fireworks, do serve our purpose. Based on that advice, the Board has decided to fund fireworks from our general funds this year. As a result, all contributions to the District in the future will be considered as tax deductible. The special fireworks account will be closed in the near future and those funds will be moved to our general district funds. If you would like t o include the District i n your giving plans, your gift would be most welcome. Please send your gift to:
